The colonial-waterbird 2008 annual-census takers were: Chester Smith, Warden of Sundown Island, Ed Taylor, David Newstead (Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program), Andy Kasner (Audubon), Clare Lee and Robyn Cobb (Fish & Wildlife Services), Kim Withers (TAMUCC), Diane Nunley (TOS) and Marcy Spears (Houston).

There is always a bit of extra work for volunteers when they come to the island.  Chester was concerned about getting the spring replaced on the windmill so that water could be pumped to the various ponds on the island.

Andy Kasner and Robyn Cobb are holding the line to tie off the rotor so that it doesn't knock David off of the top of the windmill platform while he trys to replace the spring.

In the end, the windmill repair was not successful (wrong part, maybe).  David Newstead said "I believe I started and ended my career as a windmill repairman all in the same day."
