SundownIsland  > Workdays > 2007 Audubon Spring Workday
Chester Smith, Warden of Sundown Island and David Newstead, Manager of the Audubon Colonial Waterbird Program, lead other Audubon employees for the 2007 Sundown Island spring workday. It started out as a very foggy morning.

SundownIsland > The second Audubon group arrives on the island. It might be hard to believe from this photo, but the fog wasn't as dense for the second group. Photo credit: Andrew C. Kasner
SundownIsland > The windmill on the island has probably become a marker for many Port O'Connor fisherman and boaters. For Sundown Island volunteers and for the birds, it is a beacon supporting the local waterbirds. Photo credit: Andrew C. Kasner

To the right of Randy you can see one of the old platforms that provide additional nesting habitat for Sundown Island birds. Randy is watching the Great-blue Herons, not shown in this photo. SundownIsland > Randy Schoen pulls dead invasive guineagrass away from the native brush that was planted to provide habitat for nesting wading birds. Pulling the dead grass away helps the brush receive more sunlight for growth. Photo credit: Andrew C. Kasner
SundownIsland > Looking up at the birds is always fun, but don't forget to look down and watch where you are walking. Can you spot the rattlesnake in this photo? Photo credit: Andrew C. Kasner
