Approximately 16 volunteers showed up for the Devon sponsored 2006 Fall Workday to help plant trees, kill fire ants, mow paths, pick up trash, and generally get the island ready for the winter inhabitants.
This meadow is a popular spot for pelicans during breeding season. Walking through the grass is soft and spongey from the sand and matted grass below it. The tree in the background is usually populated with Snowy Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets.
